Sully Erna FINALLY Decides to Release Solo Album
Big news this time, y'all and I'm finally caught up on the news enough to make sure that this is as breaking as the guy without the inside contacts to the Metal Industry can get. Sully Erna, the frontman for Godsmack, is finally releasing his Solo Album, Avalon, having finished it back in '09. Apparently, the guy's been waiting for Godsmack to finish and release their fifth studio album before releasing this gem.
Now let me get one thing straight; Godsmack are HARDLY a great band. Hell, of all the songs I've heard from 'em, only three really sound that different to me. But that's okay, because I still enjoy the hell outta Godsmack. When "Cryin' Like a Bitch" hits the radio waves, I crank it with the windows down while I drive through the neighborhood (Hey, if I have to listen to 50 cent and Whatever rapper decides to throw "Lil' " on his name this year while my neighbor drives down the street, he can suffer through some fucking Godsmack). The first single, "Sinner's Prayer" is actually set to start playing on the radio today, and I couldn't help but look forward to it, so I listened to a sample of the song. The 30 second sample that BLABBERMOUTH provides kinda.... well, it's not exactly Metal, and I'll be sure to link you guys too just for the sake of convenience, but it's not very energetic at all really. Yeah, that fits with how Enra is selling the album ("As I've said before, I must emphasize that THIS IS NOT A ROCK RECORD!!! This is a series of beautifully arranged compositions that I have created over many years."), but when your biggest claim to fame is fronting a band like fucking Godsmack and you deviate from the usual this much, people and fans, like myself, aren't just gonna be taken aback, they're gonna be fucking confused.
Truth be told, I can really pass on this song from what little I'm hearing of it. I would make the argument that it's not the whole song and therefore shouldn't be judged as such, but it's a Sample, which means this is kinda like a trailer. This is meant to make me pumped for the song and the album and it's just not cutting it for me. I'm still looking forward to the album despite this, which means I get to wait until September 14 to hear more than just this one song. I'd hate for the album to tank before it gets a chance.
